Dusk arrives on a low ridge above Villaseca and the valley exhales; the last light slides off terraced hills while the Andes silhouette sharpens the horizon. On this guided night hike in Chile’s Elqui Valley, walkers move deliberately—stepping through scrub and dry river terraces toward a wide vantage point where meditation bowls settle the chest and the first stars prick the sky.
moderate.
4–5 hours.
Moderate fitness—comfortable walking on uneven ground and short inclines is required; not suitable for infants or those with limited mobility.
Participants must be at least 14 years old due to night conditions and the moderate trail.
Private transfer is provided from Vicuña to Villaseca; public transport options exist nearby but confirm pickup details with the operator.
Those with basic fitness and mobility can complete the moderate trail, but it requires stable footing and short uphill sections.
Yes—guides provide assistance and allow time for astrophotography; bring a tripod and learn camera settings in advance if you want longer exposures.
The valley carries Diaguita and Quechua influences; local communities preserved astronomical lore that linked seasonal cycles to agriculture and ceremony.
The Elqui’s clear skies depend on low light pollution and careful visitor behavior—stick to trails, pack out waste and limit artificial light to protect nocturnal ecology.
