A warm wind moves across the wash as the city lights begin to glow, and the trailhead at Terrazza Park feels like a private gateway out of the city. Hikers step off a lighted picnic area and follow the Las Vegas Wash for a half-mile, where pockets of flowing water and tamarisk stand in contrast to the surrounding desert; the trail then peels from the wash and climbs a rocky incline to a ridgeline that opens onto the full sweep of the Strip.
moderate.
2 hours.
Moderate fitness: able to walk 1–2 miles on uneven terrain and handle a steady 500 ft climb at a slow pace.
The route is short but includes a steady 500 ft climb on rocky trail; beginners in reasonable shape who move slowly and use provided lights should be fine.
The guide’s dog joins the hike and pets are permitted, but check in advance for group rules and keep animals leashed to protect wildlife and other hikers.
Arrive 10–15 minutes early to park, sign in at the meeting spot near the lighted picnic area, and use restroom facilities before departure.
Guides provide lights and manage group pace; however, wear proper footwear, bring a headlamp, and disclose health issues — it’s not recommended for those with serious cardiovascular conditions.
Lake Las Vegas is a planned community built around a reservoir in the late 20th century; the Las Vegas Wash has been central to local water‑management and habitat restoration efforts.
Stay on the trail to protect riparian vegetation around the Wash; the area benefits from regional water recycling and restoration programs that support year‑round flows.
