The morning air in the hills above Nha Trang tastes of wet earth and gasoline as a line of ATVs idle beneath towering dipterocarp and bamboo stands. You push off onto a narrow rutted track, water splashing under the wheels, and the jungle rearranges itself around the machine — leaves slap past your forearms, birds flash through the understory, and occasional clearings deliver a sudden view of the coastal plain below.
