This tour is your key to Naples art, history and exclusive flavour.
During this tour we’ll come to Naples, which for centuries has been the most important city of the southern Mediterranean. It was founded by ancient Greeks, but has witnessed a great variety of cultures, conquerors, rulers and personalities coming from all sides of Europe. This mixture of nations, languages, colours and traditions has left its traces in the daily life of this vibrant seaside city.
We’ll see both the historical and more recent parts of the metropolis. We’ll see Piazza Garibaldi, walk along Corso Umberto Primo, glimpse the Port of Naples, enjoy the luxurious Riviera di Chiaia, as well as the hill of Posillipo from where you can see as far as the fairy-tale island of Capri. We’ll pass by the square “Piazza del Gesù” where the church of Gesù Nuovo stands. The central street called “Spaccanapoli” will lead us along the same path which used to be the central avenue (cardo) of the city in ancient times. This street will introduce you to the southern Italian spirit. We’ll see the miraculous church and monastery of Saint Chiara dating from the 14th century, the famous Chapel San Severo with the stunning statue “Veiled Christ” by Giuseppe Sammartino. Our route will take us to the street called via dei Tribunali. We’ll also see the church of Saint Lorenzo from as early as the 13th century. One of the main highlights will be the cathedral of Saint Gennaro with its marvellous neogothic facade. In a baroque style chapel the miraculous blood of the saint patron of the city, Saint Gennaro, is kept.
We’ll stop for lunch in a classical pizzeria to taste the product, which originated in Naples. If you like (I bet you do!), I’ll bring you to a local restaurant where only the local people go and eat the best pizza in the city!
Then we’ll go to Piazza Plebiscito, the historical Quartieri Spagnoli and the Gallery of King Umberto Primo. We’ll also visit the famous San Carlo theatre (the first professional Opera theatre in Europe), the Royal Palace, the beautiful Gambrinus cafe’ where a lot of famous artists and writers have been, and the formidable Maschio Angioino castle.
