The engine settles and the horizon opens — low, rippled dunes roll toward a salt-silver coast while a cold, misty wind from the Atlantic tugs at your jacket. On a full-day tour from Walvis Bay you move through stark contrasts: baked gravel plains give way to wind-carved dunes, then to the shallow blue of Sandwich Harbour’s lagoon where flamingos feed.
easy.
7 hours.
Light fitness—able to stand, walk short sandy sections, and handle uneven ground for brief periods.
The tour lasts about 7 hours and includes guided off-road travel, wildlife viewing stops, lunch and drinks (including a local beer option).
Children can join but infants must sit on laps; the tour involves some short sandy walks and uneven terrain, so it’s not recommended for those with serious back or heart problems.
Guides aim for areas with regular sightings of oryx, springbok and shorebirds, but wildlife is free-roaming and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Full refund available if you cancel at least 24 hours before departure; cancellations less than 24 hours are non-refundable and the operator may cancel if there are insufficient travelers.
Walvis Bay developed as a strategic Atlantic port; the coastal fog and Benguela Current helped create the Namib’s unique desert-maritime environment.
Dune and lagoon habitats are fragile—stay on established tracks, avoid disturbing shorebird roosts, and follow guide instructions to minimize impact.
