The day begins in the soft Nairobi light as your driver-guide threads through city traffic toward leafy Lang'ata. At the Giraffe Centre a raised platform brings your face level with Rothschild giraffes; long lashes and lumbering curiosity make feeding them feel deliberate, almost conversational. Later, the red-tiled colonial house of Karen Blixen sits against the low sweep of the Ngong Hills, its rooms and gardens recalling the real-life stories behind Out of Africa.
