moderate
6 days (3–6 hours hiking per active day)
Moderate fitness—regular walkers who can handle sustained climbs and stairs will be comfortable.
Step out of Kathmandu’s traffic and into pine-scented ridgelines on this 6-day Nagarkot–Chisapani trek. Expect forested trails, hilltop teahouses and sunrise views of Everest and her neighboring giants—plus practical stops at Changunarayan and Bhaktapur.
A thin ribbon of road dissolves into a stone stairway and the city noise drops away. By the time the private vehicle parks at Sundarijal, the air already smells of damp earth and pine resin. You shoulder a daypack and follow a path that snakes uphill—first through concrete steps and village lanes, then into a fir-and-rhododendron forest where sunlight filters in slow, green slices. The trail climbs steadily; behind you, the Kathmandu Valley shrinks into a patchwork of fields and tin roofs. By late afternoon you arrive at Chisapani, a wind-skimmed hilltop where teahouses perch like sentries overlooking the ridgeline.

Wake before dawn on the Nagarkot morning to catch the mountain light—visibility is best 30–90 minutes after sunrise.
Temperatures swing quickly between valley heat and ridge chill—pack a lightweight down or fleece and a wind shell.
Carry 1–2 liters and a small filter or purification tablets; teahouses refill but bottled water increases plastic waste.
Choose trail shoes with good grip and ankle support—stone stair sections can be hard on knees going down.
Changunarayan temple on the return route is one of Nepal’s oldest Hindu shrines, with stone carvings and inscriptions dating back over a millennium.
The trek crosses protected parkland—stick to marked trails, carry out waste, and use refillable bottles to minimize plastic impact.
Provides traction on wet stone steps and comfort over mixed terrain.
Warmth for cold dawns on ridgelines and early-morning views.
