We’re often asked where your fishing charter will go in the inshore fishing waters of Myrtle Beach.
We have good news — we can travel anywhere you’d like to go.
Each of our charters is your own private boat, so you’ll be just with your family and our Captain on the boat to find the best spot for you. In general, we have a few different places that we go depending on when the fish are biting during that time of year. We fish year-round from Little River to North Myrtle Beach & beyond (sometimes we’ll stretch into Sunset Beach or south into Myrtle Beach), so we’ll know the week of your trip where the fish are biting best.
Where fish are biting can change from day to day, so we adjust each trip according to our experience. The air temperature, water temperature, tide status and even bait selection can all have an impact on where the fish are. A spot that was not productive at 11am may be on fire at 3pm!
A few of our most common fishing areas are featured below — inshore, deep sea (near shore) and the Little River jetties. Each area has its own benefits, unique fishing challenges and species that we are likely to catch. Depending on the length of your charter, we’ll often move 2–4 times between different spots to target new species and put you on the fish you and your family like best. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us, and we’ll be happy to chat with you about your ideal trip.
Captains Below are the current captains for Reel Action Fishing charters. They’ve been doing Myrtle Beach fishing charters for years, all in the local Grand Strand area. With vast knowledge of inshore fishing as well as deep sea fishing in the Myrtle Beach area, they’re ready for any request.
Captain John Schuchman I enjoy the connection with nature the most. Learning from the local environment, the challenge and just learning about the ecosystem. I started Reel Action Fishing Charters to bring private yet affordable fishing charters to the visitors of Myrtle Beach. I am especially comfortable educating children on the adventures of fishing.
Captain Johnny Schuchman I find the challenge of fishing the most rewarding part. No two days are the same, no two trips are the same. Getting to know our customers and accompany them on their vacation trip is an awesome feeling. Being outdoors everyday doing what I enjoy is very rewarding as I love to hunt, fish and surf.
Captain Josh Small I enjoy going with families the most! As a father myself, it’s so much fun to see young children catching their first fish or falling in love with the fun and educational experience of fishing. There’s no better way to make family memories on the water in Myrtle Beach than going on a charter boat.
##About The Fish
Below, you learn more about the types of fish we generally catch in most seasons. Of course, we can’t guarantee if you’ll catch anything at all, but the seasons below tend to follow the same pattern. If you’re looking for a specific type of fish or type of fishing, feel free to contact us for a detail.
A pretty common question we get asked by a lot of customers is the type of fish that we expect to catch in various seasons or months of the year. While we wish that your favorite was always biting, fishing seasons come and go with heat, cold and type of trip that the Captain chooses to take you on. Many customers want to catch larger fish like sharks and stingrays that they can’t get during their normal fishing trips.
Others, however, like the more laid back flounder fishing experience that the back creeks offer. Whatever your needs, we can evaluate the season and what you’d like to catch. To get you started, we have a quick guide below on which fish bite when. Check out your planned trip to see types of fish and typical trips we’d recommend. Happy fishing!
###January through March During the months of January through March it is going to cold, you are going to get the most fish bites back in the creeks and flats. Dressing warm during these months is critical for having a good time. During these months, the Dog Fish moves into the reefs, along with all the other reef fish. Most of the fish that we catch will have to be released, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less fun!
###March through May During the months of March through May, the weather starts to warm up and that means that the fishing will only get better from here on! We catch Red Fish, Black Drum, Black Sea Bass, Flounder, and Dog Fish. During these months the reefs start to come to life again with Black Bass, Spade Fish, Cobia Fish, and Sharks! The fish get more aggressive and hungry during these months, so this leads to more exciting catches.
###May through August During the months of May through August, you start catching a lot more fish than any of the other months. At the beginning the flounder bite is slow, but as the water gets warmer it increases. Big Reds are biting real good during these months as well as, Sting Rays, Sharks, Trout, Black Drum, Spade Fish, Cobia Fish, Black Bass, and Trigger Fish. The fish are very active during these months and they are everywhere!
###August through October During the months of August through October, it is really hot outside and the fish are still biting real good. In August the Big Black Drum, Red Fish, Sharks, Stingrays, and Spanish are biting good. However, on September 10 to 45 pound Bull Reds move in, and it’s like fighting a bull! It is a blast, if you have never caught a fish like it before, you will definitely want to catch another!
###October through December During the months of October through December it starts to get cold again and weather is always a factor. Some fish are still biting though, recently the Bull Reds stayed through October. In November and December we will be catching trout, Red Fish, and Black Drum in the creeks, waterway, or jetties.
Please make sure that you always dress accordingly with the weather. Make sure to bring your own sunscreen, beverages, food or jackets if needed. We do not provide snacks or beverages, so please bring your own cooler of whatever you desire with you so it is a nice relaxing and of course fun time for you. Make sure you book in advance to reserve your spot for a fun fishing adventure!
