You step off the small bus with ocean air cutting at your cheeks and the distant rattle of a stream daring you closer. The guides meet you in green at the NPS Visitor Center in Skagway, then wind nine miles down the Taiya Inlet to Dyea, where a low-slung camp sits beside a braided creek and the forest smell sharpens. Puppies tumble at your boots; the musher's voice shapes the scene with dog-care details and sprint stories.
