The dhow slips from Muscat Marina with a soft creak, sails catching the sun as the city falls away. Salted wind pushes you toward cliffs and small coves; the dhow, built in traditional Omani style, rocks easily on the Indian Ocean swells. Within an hour the shoreline loosens into open water and the captain points toward a bright coral patch where tropical fish ride the current.
