Dawn breaks over the Kampala–Gulu highway as a 4x4 pushes north, the land opening into broad savanna and riverine forest. By midmorning the group is tracking rhinos on foot at Ziwa, boots sinking into sun-warmed grass while guides point out fresh prints and mud-walled wallows. Later the Victoria Nile takes center stage, the river daring you closer as the boat threads toward the thunder of Murchison Falls.
