On day two you’ll visit a Penan settlement by longboat to see traditional handicrafts, then trek three hours through steep, slippery jungle to Camp 05.
The ascent to Gunung Api (Pinnacles) is a sustained climb of rough limestone and roots; expect scrambling sections and 3 hours each way from Camp 05 to the observation points with several hundred meters of elevation change. Terrain alternates plank walk, riverine longboat travel, packed-earth jungle trails and exposed limestone steps.
Practical notes: carry a waterproof daypack, insect repellent and a headlamp; footwear should have sticky rubber for wet rock. Hydrate and pace on steep sections — there’s limited mobile signal on the trail. Guides handle logistics, park permits and timing for the bat flight, but a good level of fitness and steady footing are required for safe enjoyment of the caves and pinnacles.

No technical caving skills are required for the showcaves; guided trails and boardwalks handle most sections, but you should be comfortable in dark, uneven spaces.
