You step off the small flight into Mulu and the air changes—humid, green, and alive. A narrow plank walk threads through lowland dipterocarp and kerangas forest for about 3 km, ending at the yawning mouth of Deer Cave where, at dusk, a river of bats pours into the sky and the cliff faces seem to breathe.
