Acclimatize in Huaraz
Spend 48–72 hours in Huaraz before the climb to reduce altitude sickness risk and test your response to 3,000+ m elevations.
Practice crampon and axe use
If possible, rehearse basic crampon and ice-axe technique on shorter day hikes or at a local climbing gym prior to arrival.
Start the summit early
The final ascent begins around 3:00 AM—expect cold, hard ice and limited light; pack a reliable headlamp and extra batteries.
Hydration and nutrition
