About

Our company boasts the largest backyard in the Queenstown Basin, with exclusive access to some of Glenorchy' s most iconic and renowned scenery. Come and explore over 100,000 acres of pristine Backcountry. Cross glacier fed rivers, climb the side of a mountain range and explore trails through ancient beech forest.

Complementary Lunch included in this package. 5-6 hours in the saddle.

FOR RIDERS WITH A GOOD LEVEL OF FITNESS AND RIDING ABILITY: 

50 + hours in saddle experience required- comfortable cantering over uneven terrain and having a balanced and independent seat are necessary to do this ride due to the terrain, pace and the length of the trek.

  • We provide helmets and wet weather gear if required.
  • Allow travel time when booking other activities. Glenorchy is approx 60mins from Queenstown
  • Check in time 15 min prior to ride departure (we do not hold any rides so please be on time)

Restrictions:

  • Min age 12 years old. All children 16 years old and under MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Max Weight 95kg.(The well being of our horses is important, clients may be weighed at check in and then you will be introduced to the horse that best suits your riding ability and weight)
  • For the safety of all involved, ALL clients must understand basic English or have a PROFESSIONAL translator present for the entire duration of any activity as a safety requirement. What to bring

Please dress to the weather conditions and temperature. YEAR ROUND: Long pants, suitable sturdy closed covered footwear (no large heels or sandals permitted), sunglasses, sunscreen/insect repellant. A water bottle is also recommended in summer months or if you get thirsty often. During winter please bring warm layers including jackets, gloves and scarf. A phone or small camera is recommended to capture your memories.

Arrive Early for Check-In

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before departure to accommodate horse assignments and gear fitting.

Bring a Water Bottle

Though lunch is provided, hydration on the trail is crucial—carry your own water bottle, especially in warmer months.

South Island weather shifts swiftly; layer up and prepare with waterproof gear which High Country Horses can supply if needed.

Must Be an Experienced Rider

This ride requires 50+ hours in the saddle and confident, balanced riding skills for handling uneven terrain and cantering.
