Adventure Tips

Wear sturdy shoes for volcanic terrain

The hike involves scrambling on volcanic scoria which can be slippery; durable, well-gripped footwear is essential.

Bring swimwear and towel for sledging

River sledging requires wetsuits, but you’ll need swimwear underneath and a towel for after the water portion.

Prepare for changing weather

Rotorua’s weather can shift quickly; layering clothing ensures comfort from volcanic ridge hikes to river chills.

Stay hydrated and carry snacks

The full-day combo lasts around 7.5 hours, so packing water and light snacks helps maintain energy.
