You climb in the blue-black pre-dawn toward a rim that will split light across a sleeping caldera. Torches bob like moths as the trail narrows; the volcano exhales a warm breath beneath your feet and the first ribbon of orange slides over Lake Batur. From the summit at about 1,717 m the sunrise unfolds fast — cloud banks flatten into a silver sea, terraces and villages below shrink to model villages, and the crater’s shape reads like an open book of the island’s geology.

Yes — the tour includes access to Toya Bungkah/Batur hot springs; pools are generally safe, but avoid immersion if you have open wounds or certain medical conditions.
At about 1,700 m most people do not experience severe altitude sickness, but light breathlessness can occur; ascend slowly and hydrate.
Wear moisture-wicking layers and sturdy shoes for the hike; bring a towel, swimsuit and flip-flops for the hot springs after the descent.
Mount Batur occupies a caldera formed by earlier eruptions; the volcano is active and holds spiritual significance for local Balinese communities who perform offerings around the caldera.
Stay on marked trails to prevent erosion, pack out waste, and support local guides and small businesses to ensure tourism benefits the community.
