Before dawn the jeep rumbles away from Ubud and the road slims into plantations. Headlights cut through steam from rice paddies; as you climb toward Kintamani the sky lightens and the silhouette of Mount Batur sharpens. By sunrise the crater and black lava fields are revealed — raw, angular rock that still remembers the blasts of 1843 and 1963 — while steam from geothermal vents adds a restless breath to the air.

Pickups are typically before 3:00–4:00 AM to reach Mount Batur in time for sunrise, depending on your hotel location.
