Mount Batur’s 1926 eruption produced expansive lava flows that reshaped the south‑west flank and remain visible as black, blocky rock; the caldera has been a central feature for local spiritual life for centuries.
Stay on designated viewing areas and avoid collecting volcanic rock; the Batur basin supports smallholder agriculture vulnerable to erosion and litter, so minimize waste and respect local farming plots.
