Imagine seeing the water in a whole new light: moonlight! For two days each month, the full moon lights up the river with an etherial glow that sparkles off the waters surface and creates a truly spectacular and unique experience. We depart just before sunset on sailing vessel Galene, which is outfitted with specific gear for cruising safely at night, and spend two hours sailing on the Rappahannock River with the moon as our guide. One of my favorite trips we are offer, the Moonlight Cruise is a totally new way to experience the river.
All of our adventures begin with an introduction to the vessel, our beloved 36’ Columbia Galene, and a safety briefing. We depart from the dock and motor out of the harbor and into the Rappahannock River, where the sailing begins in earnest.
What to bring
You may bring a cooler with your food and beverage of choice, although no glass containers (except a wine bottle) are permitted onboard.
Dress in layers as conditions on the water can be warmer/colder that you might expect from the land climate. Please bring appropriate footwear for the boat, quick drying clothes (synthetic layers are great), and a rain coat (just in case!). There is plenty of room and privacy in the cabin to store your belonging and change clothes.
