Ciudad Vieja is Montevideo’s colonial core and port district; the iconic Rambla was developed in the 20th century to shape and protect the city’s shoreline.
Keep picnic waste with you and use provided trash bags—local groups run regular Rambla cleanups, and minimizing single-use plastics helps protect shoreline birds.
