Mobile Petting Zoo: Hands-On Farm Visits for Parties & Events in Merrill, WI

Mobile Petting Zoo brings the barnyard to your block in Merrill, Wisconsin, offering hands-on animal encounters for festivals, parties, and community events. The experience centers on a selection of small, gentle breeds — a friendly pony, compact goats, soft-coated sheep, bunnies, ducklings and chickens — with occasional chicks, turkeys, or small pigs when available. Animals are displayed in temporary enclosures the team brings, and guests are welcome to enter pens to hold and pet the animals under attentive staff supervision. Set against the agricultural backdrop of north-central Wisconsin, this roaming farm program has been on the road with Grampa’s Farm since its earliest days, showing up at county dairy breakfasts, church picnics, corporate outings, and neighborhood birthdays. That mix of community events gives the setup a practical, low-key charm: it’s not a staged attraction but a mobilized neighborhood barn visit, tailored to fit spaces from festival greens to backyard lawns. What stands out here is the focus on smaller breeds chosen for calm temperaments, which makes the attraction ideal for families with young children and educators seeking interactive learning. The hands-on format doubles as an educational opportunity: staff explain basic animal care, talk about local farming practices, and supervise safe interactions so guests can feel comfortable petting, holding, and snuggling animals. Booking and logistics are straightforward. Rates are $150 per hour with a two-hour minimum; a four-hour engagement is most common. Mileage is billed at $1.50 per mile round trip within a one-hour radius of the farm, and a $150 deposit holds the date and is refundable if cancelled at least two weeks ahead. The standard availability window runs late April through Labor Day, with occasional bookings on the farm into September and October. If you’re planning a family reunion, school visit, or community festival in or around Merrill, this mobile petting zoo delivers a compact, portable farm experience with a strong emphasis on animal welfare and guest safety. It’s a memorable way to connect kids to animals, reinforce local agricultural traditions, and add an upbeat, hands-on element to any event. Bring closed-toe shoes, plan for simple handwashing between encounters, and expect giggles. Hosts encourage bookings several months in advance for busy summer weekends and will advise on space needs and load-in logistics; setups typically require a grassy, level area roughly the size of two tennis courts and a vehicle turnaround for trailers. Staff manage feeding demonstrations, supervised grooming, and brief Q&A moments that teach kids where their food comes from and how to treat animals gently. The setup is portable but professional: pens are secured, hay is contained, and staff carry basic first aid and sanitation supplies. Expect a steady rotation of animals to keep interactions calm and safe.
