A morning boat cuts through the Indian Ocean at sunrise, spray tasting faintly of salt and mango; ahead, the rim of Mnemba’s coral atoll appears as a pale green ring floating on deeper blue. Tour operators meet small groups at Nungwi or Muyuni to head out for dolphin viewing first—brief, respectful watches from the boat—and then anchor on the leeward side of Mnemba for snorkeling amid shallow coral gardens and busy reef fish.
