The boat slips away from the timbered jetty and the coastline of Miri falls back into a low, green line; ahead, the ocean opens into a mosaic of coral bommies and sand channels. Under the surface, fans and table corals unfurl like slow-moving flags, and schools of reef fish probe crevices while a turtle glides with deliberate ease.
