Dawn lifts off the dunes at Merzouga and the road unfurls west—an hourglass of sand and stone giving way to palm oases, limestone gorges and kasbah towns. The first day moves through Rissani’s historic market streets, along the red cliffs of the Todra Gorges and down into the sculpted terraces of the Dadès Valley before the sun lowers over Ouarzazate’s ochre rooftops and Atlas Studios.
