About

Capture the fire display at Crown Casino, or make the sky pop over Federation Square. With Aperture Tours, you will walk away with stunning images. On the Melbourne Night Photo Tour, we will have the opportunity to explore the calm waters of the Yarra River. With cars streaking in front of Flinders Street Station, all the way to the giant fireballs bursting from the Crown Casino forecourt. We know the best spots in Melbourne after dark, and we can teach you how to capture them all perfectly.

Whether you are starting off, a hobbyist or have years of experience, our team of professional photographers will find superb photographic opportunities for all kinds of interests. Capture not just the grand landmarks, but the stream of car lights and the blurred passing of boats along the canals. Take advantage of the one-on-one experience of our private and personalised tour to develop your own creative vision while offering practical tips on photographing in low light and long exposures.

Each tour is crafted to the skills and needs of the participants. Apart from taking photos, you can also expect to learn:

  • Night photography techniques, what settings and locations work best.
  • How to use lines, frames and luminosity to enhance your photos.
  • Long exposure light streaking - cars, boats
  • Taking control of your camera: ƒ-stop, shutter speed, ISO and focusing
  • Reviewing your photography

You won't be on your feet the entire time though, we will start off with a coffee to go over your work and level of technical expertise so that our professional photographers can craft the perfect tour, suited directly to your skillset. Let us know if you have a particular location you want to shoot and we will work it into the itinerary.

Each tour is private, and we will not couple you with people you do not know. Feel free to bring along guests, such as other photographer friends, or your partner and family, but we ask you to limit the group to four people. This way we can work at your pace to make sure you take away the skills that last a lifetime.

What to bring

In addition to your camera, we highly recommend bringing a tripod. If you don't have one, you can rent it when booking.

Adventure Tips

Bring a sturdy tripod

Night photography demands long exposures; a tripod stabilizes your camera for sharp images.

Charge your camera batteries fully

Long shooting sessions in low light consume more power, so bring extra batteries if you have them.

Dress for Melbourne’s evening chill

Temperatures can drop quickly after sunset—wear layers to stay warm and comfortable.

Use a remote shutter release or timer

This helps avoid camera shake during long exposures when pressing the shutter button.

Local Insights
