Local insights

Wildlife

River gulls and wintering waterfowl along the Elbe
Urban foxes that sometimes slip through quieter side streets at dusk

History

Meissen was an early seat of power in Saxony and birthplace of European hard‑paste porcelain; Dresden’s rebuilt centre memorializes its 18th‑ and 19th‑century role as a royal capital.

Conservation

Markets generate seasonal waste—bring a reusable mug for hot drinks and dispose of trash at central bins; support local artisans rather than mass‑produced souvenirs to help the local economy.
