A narrow highway unwinds east from Medellín and the valley opens—water mirrors the sky in the reservoir below La Piedra del Peñol as the guide parks and the wind seems to push you toward the rock. You arrive with 1.5 hours of driving behind you and the massif towering above the lake. A vertical stairwell carved along the granite face leads upward; each step is a small negotiation with gravity and history.

The program runs about eight hours including hotel pickup, roughly 1.5 hours each way on the road and time on-site for coffee, the replica village, El Peñol, and Guatapé.
The climb involves about 740 steps; it’s steep but manageable for many visitors—take breaks and skip it if you have cardiovascular or spinal limitations.
Entrance to La Piedra del Peñol is typically not included and is paid on arrival; the tour does include private transport and a bilingual guide.
