You step off the boat and the lake opens beneath you — broad, blue, and rimmed by high volcanic ridges. A short transfer from Panajachel climbs to a scrubby trail; wind tugs at loose soil and the air smells of smoke and pine. The trail finishes at a band of four caves carved into a caldera wall where shamans still light ritual fires.
