About

  • The NRA Rifle Instructor training course is among the most comprehensive instructor disciplines. The course starts with a discussion of the most popular rifle actions. Next comes ammunition, rimfire, and centerfire, with some discussion on black powder muzzleloaders. Then the course dives into all of the various positions: benchrest, standing (free arm and armrest), prone, and then kneeling and sitting. How to teach the use of slings is covered, and how to zero a rifle.
  • The second day, novice students are recruited for the instructor candidates to present their assigned topics. Then the instructor candidates are teamed up with a novice student and work them through the various positions. Then, after serious dry fire practice, the class will go to the range to prove the newly established skills of the students. Finally, the instructor candidates will take a written test to document their approved knowledge.
  • Instructor candidates for this two-day course will be required to demonstrate their gun handling and marksmanship skills in the qualification shoot during the class.
  • NRA student text and instructor lesson plans.

What to Bring

Note-taking materials, highlighter, and, if a member, their NRA ID number. The qualifier can be shot with any rifle, including .22s. The NRA prefers no optics since we shoot at only 25 yards, but I will allow it.
