Mark Zacharia at Smoke & Mirrors: Mentalism and Hypnotism in Glenside

On Easton Road in Glenside, Pennsylvania, the Smoke & Mirrors Theater at The House of Magic — 101 S. Easton Rd, Glenside Pa, 19038 — turns a Saturday night into a laboratory of disbelief. Mark Zacharia’s show blends mentalism, hypnotism, and sleight-of-hand into a performance that feels equal parts psychological experiment and neighborhood salon. The theater is small enough that strangers become collaborators: you’ll lean forward, meet performers’ eyes, and feel each revelation land in the room. Zacharia brings more than two decades of experience, with credits that range from command performances for state legislative audiences to off-Broadway slots and casino stages. In Glenside he scales that resume down to human scale: card forces, whispered suggestions, and theatrical misdirection work best when the ring of audience attention is compact. That intimacy makes improbable moments—names recalled from memory, predictions unfolded, volunteers brought gently into the center of attention—seem personal rather than staged. Physically, the theater is a classic small performance space: a low proscenium, a raised stage, close seating and warm stage lighting that throws faces into sharp relief. The building sits amid the suburban streets of Glenside, where elm and oak-lined blocks and older brick storefronts give the arrival a specific local flavor. This isn’t a Vegas showroom; it’s a community theater with a magician’s DNA, where timing and human psychology matter more than pyrotechnics. If you’re visiting the Philadelphia region and looking for an evening that connects you with people and ideas rather than just spectacle, this is a smart stop. The show works for date nights, curious solo travelers, or small groups celebrating a milestone. Age guidance on the listing indicates 16+, which aligns with the mature themes of suggestion and cognitive tricks. What makes Mark Zacharia at Smoke & Mirrors special is the marriage of experienced craft and intimate setting: you get the reach of a performer who has played large stages while sitting close enough to see the mechanics fail you. For anyone who wants to be surprised by human behavior and to leave talking, this is one of the region’s standout live-entertainment experiences. Bring an open mind, a charged phone for photos (but silence it), and a willingness to volunteer—your participation may be the thread that stitches the trick together and turns a single evening into a long story you tell friends for years.
