Mist hangs low on the first morning as you leave Cusco’s high streets and begin the slow descent from 3,300 m toward the Amazon. The road slips through cloud forest—ferns and bromeliads brushing the windows—before the Andes open and the river takes over, guiding you downstream into heat, thick green light, and the persistent call of birds.
