On this Mangrove Kayak Tour, your guide will lead you through the mangrove islands of Longboat Key's "Sister Islands", explaining the wildlife, history, and telling stories that will have you smiling through the whole trip. Get ready for this relaxed adventure and let’s check mangrove kayaking off your bucket list! This excursion is perfect for families, couples, and individuals with any level of paddling experience.
The tour is normally about three hours, and we paddle about as many miles. We'll stop at either the sandbar or the beach to stretch our legs at the half-way point. We'll proceed at your pace and you'll see that it's pretty relaxed. You'll be challenged only up to the point you're comfortable with. We've been doing this for many years now, and we're pretty good at gauging how everyone is feeling out there. We're trained naturalists, natives to the island, and certified instructors as well.
All necessary paddling and safety equipment is included with the tour, along with dry bags for your camera, phone, keys, etc. A lesson is provided at the beginning of each tour so that all are comfortable, safe, and happy on the water. There are full restrooms, an outdoor hot-water rinse shower, and plenty of parking at our kayak shop.
Tip: Single kayaks offer more independence, where each person can really learn how to move their own kayak around. Single kayaks are best for individuals who are at least 12 years old. Tandem kayaks offer more of a team adventure, where the two people have to work together to move. Inexperienced paddlers can opt to paddle a tandem kayak with a more experienced paddler. Whichever you decide, we will have you feeling very comfortable out on the water - we are very experienced and have newbies out with us all the time!
Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before your tour for check-in, restrooms, and sunscreen application.
Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to shield yourself from Florida’s strong sun, especially during midday.
Single kayaks suit independent paddlers 12 and older; tandem kayaks are perfect for teaming up or less experienced paddlers.
Stay hydrated throughout your paddle and avoid single-use plastics by bringing your own refillable bottle.
The mangrove ecosystems of Longboat Key have long supported native fisheries and protected the coastline from storm erosion.
