The morning begins on a straight tarred road as the vehicle eats up 192 km toward a white horizon — the Makgadikgadi pans lying southeast of the Okavango Delta. Sun hits the salt flat and the landscape flattens until the eye meets shimmer; the pan seems to dare you to cross it. Drivers stop at raised observation platforms where the plain opens like a map and animals thread the edges: zebra stripes cutting across pale crust, meerkats popping like sentries, jackals ghosting the scrub.

The road transfer is approximately 192 km each way on tarred roads; expect a full 12-hour day including stops and game drives.
Common sightings include zebras, meerkats, jackals, various antelopes and many bird species; lions and elephants are possible but less predictable.
