Make a Word-of-the-Year Wood Sign: Baltimore Workshop to Start 2026

Stand at a workbench under warm studio lights in Baltimore, Maryland, and the simple act of choosing a single word for the year becomes a small, deliberate expedition. The Word Of The Year Wood Sign Workshop invites you to craft a bold, three-dimensional reminder of the intention you want to carry through 2026. Located in Baltimore, this hands-on class walks beginners and seasoned makers through painting, layering, and applying raised lettering so a single word—'Bold,' 'Present,' 'Resilient,' or 'Grateful'—reads like a beacon on your wall. The scene is tactile: kiln-dried pine or reclaimed boards, the grain visible beneath saturated acrylics; stacks of laser-cut letters waiting to be primed; jars of color-saturated pigments and metallic accents lined like a palette. Key features of the experience include the 3D lettering that lifts your chosen word off the surface, the opportunity to build a nuanced color palette, and access to the studio tools needed to finish a gallery-ready piece in a single session. This is not a quick paint-night; it’s a focused design hour that rewards intention with craft. While the workshop is an indoor studio craft, the piece you make ties you back to Baltimore’s resourceful maker culture and the city’s longer history of skilled trades. Expect a small-group format—16 people maximum—so instructors can guide layout, adhesion, and finishing techniques. The class provides materials and studio space; bring an idea and a willingness to get hands-on with brushes, sandpaper, and sealant. Why book this as part of a Baltimore visit? It’s a practical souvenir: lightweight to transport, personal in scale, and more meaningful than a postcard. It’s also a way to tap into local creative energy between visits to parks, rowhouse streets, and waterfront trails. The finished sign functions as both decor and a behavioral anchor—something you’ll see every day that nudges next-year decisions. Practical notes: the workshop is best for people comfortable standing and working at a bench for a couple of hours; minimum age is 16. Plan to wear a paint-friendly layer and bring a phone for documenting progress. If sustainability matters to you, ask about reclaimed wood options and low-VOC finishes at booking. Book through the listing’s referral link to secure a seat and confirm session length and start times—details can vary by date. This class translates intention into an object with weight and texture, and it’s an appealing, city-friendly way to begin a year with deliberate focus and an object that keeps you honest. Reserve early for popular weekend slots, and consider weekday mornings if you prefer quieter space to experiment; instructors often suggest letting paint cure overnight before sealing, so plan travel accordingly if you’re flying home soon after the session, and pack a protective sleeve.
