Luxury Scenic Float on the Yellowstone River — Paradise Valley Two-Hour Cruise

There are few ways to slow down better than a two-hour glide on the Yellowstone River through Paradise Valley, near Livingston, Montana. The Luxury Scenic Float - Under Canvas guests is a small-boat experience that carries up to six people seven miles downstream at an unhurried pace, offering mountain panoramas, raptor sightings, and a calm, picture-ready river route. Meet your guide at the Under Canvas lobby tent, stroll a short way across river rocks, and settle into a cozy wooden boat stocked with included non-alcoholic drinks (BYOB and snacks are welcome).

Guides point out the Absaroka Range on one side and the rural flanks of the Gallatin Range on the other, where volcanic and uplifted formations frame open riverbanks dotted with cottonwood and willow. Expect to see bald eagles, ospreys, otters, and occasionally elk or deer coming to the water. The river here remains largely free-flowing, a defining trait of the Yellowstone, and the boat’s slow rhythm makes it ideal for photographers and anyone wanting a low-impact way to absorb landscape and wildlife without the exertion of a hike.

The outing covers roughly seven miles over two hours; meeting is 15 minutes before launch. Takeout includes either a waiting vehicle or a shuttle back to the start. Up to six passengers per boat; additional passengers cost extra. Cancellations refunded if made 48 hours ahead; routes and timings may change with river conditions. Life jackets are provided and the operator asks that you notify them about children so the right sizes are available.

Pre-ordered sandwiches from Matt's Butcher Shop & Deli can be added for a riverside picnic. The overall vibe is hospitality-forward: small groups, attentive guides, and attentiveness to comfort make this a standout way to experience Paradise Valley without turning it into a checklist. For travelers staying in Livingston, this float is a relaxed half-day escape that pairs well with fly-fishing, hiking in nearby state parks, or an evening in town.

Because the float keeps to open water and quiet shorelines, it’s both relaxing and low-impact: guides minimize disturbance to wildlife and follow Leave No Trace practices. Accessibility is limited but sometimes wheelchair accessible; notify the operator in advance if mobility assistance is needed. Prices start at $585 for up to four passengers with additional passenger fees up to six, and group rates are available by inquiry. The experience is intentionally unhurried—bring layered clothing, sun protection, and a camera. Whether you’re a first-time river rider or a seasoned traveler looking for a restorative interlude, Luxury Scenic Float - Under Canvas guests delivers an easy, scenic passage through one of Montana’s most open river corridors, finishing with a shuttle or vehicle waiting to get you back to base.
