Carry a reusable water bottleRefill in Aguas Calientes; staying hydrated helps at altitude and during the site walk.

Wear grippy shoesTrails and stone steps can be wet and uneven—light hiking shoes with traction are best.

Keep ID and ticket handyYou’ll need your passport for the Machu Picchu ticket and train checks—store them in an accessible, secure pocket.

Recommended gear

Light waterproof jacket: Protects from sudden mountain rain and wind during the site visit.
