History

Ha Long’s karst towers were formed by millions of years of marine sedimentation and erosion; the bay has been a fishing and trading landscape for centuries and gained UNESCO World Heritage status for its geological importance.

Conservation

Choose operators that follow no-anchor policies near reefs, avoid single-use plastics, and support local communities; tourism pressure has increased so responsible behavior (no littering, minimal noise) helps preserve sites.
