The raft eases off the sand at a quiet boat ramp near White Bird and the canyon swallows the sound of the motor. For the next four days you move with the Salmon — wide runs that stretch into open beaches, sudden squeezes between basalt walls, and Class III rapids that throw up sprays of cold, clear water.
