Make your visit to England majestic by walking through over 700 years of British history. Hever Castle dates back to the 13th century and was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and Mother of Elizabeth I.

In time Hever Castle has formed the unlikely backdrop to a sequence of events that changed the course of Britain’s history, monarchy and religion. Home to some of the finest furniture, tapestries and antiques which are now regarded by some of the best collections of Tudor portraits.

There is also the option of boating at the castle's private lake as an optional extra and requires pre-booking (we advise booking at least 1 week in advance).

At Hever Castle you will discover the magnificent award-winning gardens set in 125 acres of glorious grounds.

Get the chance to see the beauty of the Pompeiian Wall and classical statuary in the Italian Garden whilst inhaling the fragrance of over 3,000 rose bushes in the quintessential English Rose Garden.

The Lake

Hever Castle boasts a massive 38 acre lake, was the inspiration of William Waldorf Astor.

Looking for a tranquil location to reflect? The castle lake provides exactly this away from the main castle and gardens.

The lakeside locations of the Italian Loggia and Japanese Tea House folly provide the perfect spot to view the magical lake. Families and nature lovers will enjoy the nature trail on Lake Walk and boating provides fun for all ages.

Enjoy and discover the true beauty as well the serenity of the lake at your own pace in one of our rowing boats, canoes or pedalos. Boating is available for hire from the Edwardian boathouse on the lakeside near the Loggia.

Alternatively, take a peaceful walk around the lake and do a spot of bird watching! Along the way you will see bird boxes that are home to owls, blue tits, robins and woodpeckers and look out for kingfishers, swans, herons and crested grebes on the lake itself. At the foot of the lake there are three second world war pill boxes built to defend a key crossing point on the River Eden.
