Board the double-decker and feel the city move beneath you: the bus eases away from the kerb, streets opening like turned pages as an expert guide threads together stories of empire, engineering and everyday life. Steam from a freshly poured pot of tea mingles with the faint citrus of Prosecco while the Thames unspools alongside, daring you to mark each bridge and spire on the skyline.

Afternoon tea became a London social habit in the 1800s and the city’s riverside route reflects centuries of trade, defence and urban growth from Roman times through the Industrial Revolution.
The Thames is cleaner than in the mid‑20th century thanks to major sewer and cleanup projects; visitors can help by avoiding litter, using provided bins and respecting riverbank wildlife.
