A cold basket breathes steam into the balloon as dawn pries open over the Loire. You feel the slow lift—grass drops away, a patchwork of vineyards and fields unfolds, and the first towers of a château cut the horizon. For about an hour the world shrinks into ribbons: the Loire and Cher rivers threading silver, forested copses, and the white roofs of Renaissance castles—Chenonceau’s arches, Chambord’s skyline—sliding quietly beneath you.
