The sun tilts low and the long faces of the Liwa dunes glow orange as the convoy eases into the desert—tires whispering through sand that insists on motion. You’ll feel the dunes push and challenge you as experienced drivers thread the gullies and crest ridgelines; by evening a small camp appears, tents unfurl, and a fire takes on its own life under a wide sky.

Moderate fitness: able to manage periods of walking on soft sand and short climbs; comfortable with bumpy vehicle rides.

Tents provided are basic camping tents with bedding; they offer shelter and a local-feel camp rather than luxury glamping unless otherwise specified.
Drivers are experienced, but dune driving is bumpy—children should be secured and travelers with back issues should consult the operator beforehand.
Autumn through spring (October–April) offers cooler days and very comfortable nights; summer is extremely hot and requires extra precautions.
Liwa’s oases have supported human settlement for centuries as watering and date-farming hubs on the edge of the Empty Quarter; Bedouin routes and falaj irrigation shaped local life before modern roads.
Stick to established tracks and follow guides to minimize vehicle erosion of dunes; pack out all trash and avoid disturbing wildlife or cultural sites.
