Adventure tips

Dress for wind and sprayEven in winter the river can feel much colder than the streets—bring a windproof jacket and warm layers to stay comfortable during the night crossing.

Secure fragile gearUse a neck strap or case for cameras and phones—the boat rocks and fireworks can distract you from a slipping device.

Plan for motion sensitivityIf you get seasick, take preventative medication before boarding and choose a midship seat where motion is minimized.

Carry ID for drinksAlcohol is served and the legal minimum in Portugal is 18—bring government ID if you plan to drink.

Recommended gear

Windproof jacket: Blocks river wind and retains warmth during the night cruise.
Non-slip shoes: Helps with safe movement on wet decks and boarding ramps.
Small waterproof camera or phone case: Protects electronics from spray and accidental drops while photographing fireworks.
Motion sickness medication: Useful for those sensitive to boat movement, especially in choppy river conditions.
