History

Condado Lagoon occupies shallow coastal flats used by Taíno communities and later altered during Spanish colonial development; modern shoreline changes reflect 20th-century urban expansion.

Conservation

Mangroves and shallow flats are sensitive—avoid touching roots, dispose of trash properly, and choose operators who follow no-trace and local stewardship practices.

Adventure tips

Arrive early to check inPlan to be at the meeting point 20–30 minutes early to sign waivers, use lockers, and attend the safety briefing.

Waterproof valuablesUse a dry bag or waterproof phone case — phones and cameras can be photographed from inside a clear kayak but must stay dry.

Wear grippy, quick-dry shoesExpect slippery surfaces when entering and exiting; closed-toe water shoes will protect feet and improve stability.

Mind the weather windowTours are canceled for heavy rain or high winds; confirm conditions and expect rain-season interruptions (Jun–Nov).

Recommended gear

Closed-toe water shoes: Provides traction during wet launches and protects feet on oyster or concrete ramps.
Waterproof phone case or dry bag: Keeps electronics dry while allowing photos from the kayak's clear shell.
Headlamp or small waterproof light: Useful before sunrise/sunset and for locating gear at night; guides run LED lighting but a personal light helps.
Light rain shell: A thin, packable shell helps during tropical downpours common in summer and fall.
