Check the tide chart
Bring the day’s tide table and plan the trip around incoming or outgoing tides to maximize structure activity.
Bring sun protection
Late spring through early fall sun is strong; wear a brimmed hat, polarized sunglasses, and SPF-rated sunblock.
Wear layered footwear
Non-slip deck shoes or sandals with closed toes and a light waterproof layer help with wet decks and sudden spray.
Take notes and mark spots
Bring a waterproof notebook or use your phone to record GPS marks and bait choices for repeatable success.
Rod and reel (est. 7–7'6" medium)
Bring your own setup for hands-on practice; a medium action rod handles most bay species.
Life jacket (PFD)
USCG-approved PFDs are required for small-boat trips and keep everyone safe on the water.
Polarized sunglasses & brimmed hat
Cut glare for sight fishing and protect your eyes and face in bright sun.
