Sterile Processing Technicians clean and sanitize used surgical instruments and other medical supplies so that they can be safely redistributed and reused on additional patients. The ideal candidate will be dependable, detail-oriented, and trustworthy. Sterile Processing Technicians find employment in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, medical laboratories, birth centers, and other facilities where sterilized equipment is needed. This short-term vocational program will prepare participants for extensive job opportunities across our community. It will also prepare students for the CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) Exam for SPD Technician certification. Please see links below.
Students must have 90% attendance and minimum C average to obtain certificate.

Class Location & Hours
- Class meets on campus for in-classroom instruction on Mondays NCCC Room E-106 and live ZOOM instruction on Wednesdays (subject to change), 6:00pm – 9:00pm.
- Clinical meets at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Students will be divided into two groups and will alternate Saturdays.

Tuition Does not include the cost of textbooks and exam fees (We do not accept payment plans, payment needs to be in full for registration.)
Textbooks Textbooks must be purchased through the certifying board website as listed below NOT the College bookstore.
Textbook Options Include: Basic of Sterile Processing textbook and workbook 7th Edition by Sterile Processing University LLC.
CBSPD Sterile Processing Technician Study Guide 11th Edition.
Optional: The Surgical Instruments Flashcards which can be purchased from Amazon are also useful for your clinical experience, the certification exam, and for use while you are employed as a processing technician.
Immunization Requirements
You will have to follow all vaccination policies required for the clinical site to participate in this course.
Note that Flu Vaccines are required.
Please register early, seating is limited. NCCC reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses due to insufficient enrollment. High School Diploma or equivalency is required.
