The room smells faintly of palm and salt as you take a seat beneath the resort’s lanai light. Around you, strips of glossy lau niu—coconut fronds split into soft ribbons—wait for hands to fold them into cones, stars and miniature leis. Instructors at the Aloaliʻi Cultural Resource Center guide each motion with calm precision, turning simple leaves into ornaments that carry island weather and history.
