A cool mountain air cuts through the morning as you step off the dusty bus in Syapru Besi and follow the Langtang Khola upstream. The trail climbs through fir and rhododendron forest, crosses tumbling tributaries, and opens into high valley meadows where yak bells mark the pace. Above the roofs of Langtang village the bulk of Langtang Lirung watches like an immovable neighbor; on clear mornings its glaciers flash silver.
