On a Spectacular Day of Diversity, three unique ecosystems: the marine environment, old growth forest, and the glacial moraine
A short water taxi cruse from Homer, visit Gull Island seabird rookery home to 10,000 nesting seabirds and puffins, cormorants, murres, kittiwakes and more. At a nearby beach, you will gear-up, receive instructions and begin sea kayaking along the coast. Sea otters & seals are common, sometimes porpoises, sea lions, and whales.
Paddle by the charming artist hamlet of Halibut Cove, surrounded within the beauty of Kachemak Bay State Park. The Sea kayaking finishes at the tailhead.
No experience is necessary! Our double kayaks are stable, safe, roomy and a blast to paddle. Perfect for anyone who has never kayaked before.
A three-mile round trip hike begins at the Saddle trailhead, a moderate hike up a series of switchbacks to the top of the saddle. The remainder of the hike is easy, down to the level glacial moraine opening to a glacier lake with ice bergs at the foot of Grewgink glacier, surrounded by tall, mountain peaks. The easy hike back rewards you with views of Halibut Cove & Kachemak Bay.
